A polo shirt made of broken china? When I first heard about it, I was like, is this for real? But it is real my friend. This is a new feat in the world of apparel design, where everyone is in a race to make the most unique clothing with the most unique material. Last I heard, it was metals such as gold and platinum. But now a man in China, Li Xiaofeng, has designed wearable costumes, made from broken porcelain!

He started out as a muralist, and eventually decided to make something that the world has not seen before. Well he sure was successful! Lacoste took a fancy to his innovative idea, and asked him to create a polo shirt for the company’s 2010 holiday Collector’s Series, using this same concept. Li makes these costumes by first cleaning the porcelain pieces, and then drilling holes into them and finally binding them together with a silver wire.

If you’re a fan of basketball or, at this point, a living human, you’ve probably heard of the Jeremy Lin phenomenon known as Linsanity. Lin is a benchwarmer who has suddenly come off the bench to lead the New York Knicks to seven straight victories. “Lin” based puns (linsanity, linning, etc.) have been popping up all over the place. Included in this have been some pretty awesome t-shirts. So, here’s a post dedicated to showcasing some of the best Linsanity t-shirts that have been released. I might even update it as new shirts come out. Although I like the 76ers (so the Knicks winning is bad), I can’t help but enjoy the Jeremy Lin craze–it’s way better than Tim Tebow. What’s a crafty guy like Noah “Panda Bear” Lennox to do when he’s all done weaving together our favorite record of 2007? Why, retrofit some toasty garments with alluring new textures! (Alluring textures being a Lennox specialty in both sound and fabric, it seems.) All the better to warm the very hearts he touched on the stupendous (albeit soooo last year) Person Pitch LP.

Lennox and his wife, Fernanda Pereira, have started 2nd Things, “a second project for both of us and… a second chance for forgotten clothing,” with a line of artfully altered sweatshirts, presently available for purchase through their website. However, Mr. and Mrs. Bear have only crafted 50 of the things, so get crackin’ ASAP if you want one of these soon-to-be ultra-rare collector’s items.

No word on just what’s next for 2nd Things, though fuzzy black-and-white mittens are our choice for a logical next step.

Of course, this is just another strand in that lengthy thread of Animal Collective doings in this new year, what with a new EP, a box set, some new sessions and a tour on the way.

Men’s Shirt Sew-Along with Male Pattern Boldness

Peter at MalePatternBoldness has been busy! He is running a Men’s Shirt Sew-Along on his blog beginning on Tuesday, February 1st. Here is a chance to sew along with other folks, while learning how to meet the fitting and sewing challenges in making men’s bespoke shirts. Peter also is one of the featured sewers on BurdaStyle, with a shirt that he made using a vintage 1939 men’s pattern. This vintage-styled shirt has a removable collar and collar stand that fits over the band (which is sewn onto the shirt), and the top closes with a shirt stud. And as we all know, M. Du Jour adores detachable collars for the wonderfully practical and delightfully fussy accessory that they are!
